tarrant county college fire Technology Training Center
The new Tarrant County College Fire Training Facility is the largest fire service training center in the DFW area.
The heart of this modern facility is a 48,000 sq.ft. two-story building that houses administration, classrooms, training labs, lecture hall and adjacent fire station building. For live-fire training, a “Burn City” was created complete with strip mall, high-rise, apartment complex/hotel, and several configurations of private houses. Unique to this facility is a swift water river to simulate flash flood rescue conditions.
The facility is served by a central heating and cooling plant using high-efficiency equipment and variable-flow piping systems with VFD control. Through close coordination with the Architect, our preliminary evaluations identified certain non-aesthetic architectural changes which reduced the final cooling loads by over 50 tons of refrigeration.
Due to the unique nature of this facility, several innovative designs were utilized, as follows:
-
High Volume Emergency Exhaust
-
Smoke Purge Ventilation
-
Networked Addressable Fire Alarm
-
Underground Utility Tunnel
-
High Volume Pumping System for Swift Water Simulation
-
Simulation Fire Service Systems
-
Vehicle Exhaust Systems
Weatherford College
Design and construction administration was carried out for the extensive renovation of multiple buildings at Weatherford College, under a Performance Contract Program. Renovations included the replacement of rooftop and unitary A/C equipment with hi-efficiency units, zoning modifications, new DDC control, and lighting upgrades, applied to education facilities, dormitories, and administration. All upgrade work is geared toward performance improvements and energy savings enhancements. The entire cost of the project has been paid for by energy cost savings achieved with no financial outlay from the College.
